Order of the Golden Circle

HISTORY OF NEW HAVEN ASSEMBLY NO. 42 ORDER OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE 

On January 15, 1967 a group of women namely: Annie Bolden, Gertrude Goings, Luicenda Henderson, Nettie Pierce, Alice Redman, Sadie Stanley met with Ill. Leslie I. Duncan, Deputy of the Orient of Connecticut. Information was given to them on how to form an assembly of the Golden Circle.

On April 15, 1967 a meeting was held with Ill. Beckett of Philadelphia, Ill. Deputy of the Supreme Council along with Ill. Leslie I. Duncan. Ill. Beckett stated he heard that there was a Golden Circle in New Haven but was now defunked. Present at this meeting were: Adele Emery, Alice Roberts, Alice Redman, Luvenia Gilliams, Frances Ware, Nancy Jacobs, Laura Gilliams, Eunice Jones and Katherine Morgan.

There was an election of officers and the following were elected:

President    Adele Emery

Vice President    Frances Ware

Secretary    Alice Redman

Asst. Secretary    Eunice Jones

Treasurer    Nellie Baker

Chaplain    Lucenna Henderson

Thus, A Golden Circle Club was formed.

On May 14, 1968 the charter was drawn up under Ellied H. French Most Puissant Sovereign Grand Commander and William Venable, Secretary General.  Our first set of officers named on that charter are: Adele Emery, Loyal Lady Ruler: Lucenna Henderson, Assistant Ruler, and Luvenia Gilliam, Loyal Lady High Priestess.

The Charter was presented to the New Haven Assembly on December 15, 1968 at a luncheon held at the Holiday Inn, New Haven, Connecticut.

HISTORY OF LESLIE I. DUNCAN ASSEMBLY NO. 74 ORDER OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE HARTFORD, CT

The organizational meeting to form an Order of Golden Circle Assembly in the valley of Hartford, Orient of Connecticut took place on April 8, 1979 at the call of Ill. Leslie I. Duncan, 33 , Deputy of Connecticut. A group of twenty four (24) interested ladies were officially organized as a “club” on October 30, 1979 by Ill. Leslie I. Duncan, 33.

On September 21, 1980 the degree of Golden Circle was conferred under the direction of Ill. Leroy E. Fitch, 33, Overseer for Connecticut aided by Loyal Lady Ruler Nellie LaBelle of New Haven Golden Circle Assembly No. 42 and her officers. Twenty five (25) ladies were initiated at that time.

Dispensation was granted on December 4, 1980 which was the beginning of Leslie I. Duncan Assembly No. 74 of Hartford, CT.
